Inspection and Reverse Engineering Services
Precision inspection and complete reverse engineering services for manufacturing and product development
Reverse Engineering
Reverse Engineering is the process of replicating a design by physically examining and measuring an existing item to develop the technical data necessary to reproduce the item functionally and dimensionally. The ultimate goal being an engineering drawing from which the design can be manufactured from.
- SECG's reverse engineering services include:
- Dimensional inspection
- Material identification
- Tolerance development
- Hardness (Rockwell, ShoreA)
- Engineering drawings
- Surface finish
- Product improvement
Inspection Services
Dimensional inspection is the process of verifying manufactured products meet dimensional design requirements. The process includes physical measurement of component features using various inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, CMM, and microscopes.
SECG offers off-site and on-site inspection for large or immovable parts, assemblies, or fixtures. Inspection services can be used for vendor validation (FAA/FAI), machine and system alignments, and internal qualification of manufactured components.
Design Characteristics
Reverse engineering is more than just dimensional measurements or scanning. Material specs, hardness, coatings, surface finish, tolerancing, and fits are just some of many aspects SECG evaluates.
Tolerancing and GD&T
Full reverse engineering requires tolerance specification. This can be basic or more advanced GD&T. Primary methods: mating surface evaluation or multi-part sampling to determine max and minimums.
Engineering Drawings
The goal of reverse engineering is an engineering drawing the design can be manufactured from. Our drawings include tolerances, material specs, surface specs, and more to fully define the design
Product Improvement
Reverse engineering can be used to replicate, but also is a prime opportunity for product improvement. SECG leverages its inspection, design, and analysis capabilities to enhance designs.
